I always find it amusing, and a bit baffling when a beautiful hotel, which seems to value customer service, and making a good impression, decides to nickel and dime their guests by making them pay to have bottled drinking water in their rooms. I’m talking about just providing basic small bottles of water you might find a short walk away on the street, when those places are open

Grand Hotel de La Ville A Deserved Travellers' Choice Award Winner Location Convenient. Some ten minutes from the station and ten/fifteen minutes from Tasso Square in the centre of Sorrento. Attractive garden space at the hotel with plenty of shade in hotter weather for outdoor dining. Room Of reasonable size, clean and well appointed. Beds extremely comfortable. Effective blackout blind and soundproofing from road outside if staying in a sea view room. One "UK socket" was welcome as was the charging socket for a mobile phone. Other sockets standard Italian/European. Free wi fi in hotel. Strong signal. Air conditioning simple to program and effective. We used it at night, on lowest setting to mask corridor/ room sounds from adjoining and above. Bathroom "shower" in the bath. Not a separate unit, but effective nevertheless. We had a north facing room with a balcony on the coastal side of the property so no sun but impressive views of the coast and  Vesuvius. The higher the floor, the better the view. South side rooms, have some  sun but balconies overlook nearby tenement blocks. The hotel has two pools one, on the rooftop, is heated, in the "high season". The water in both pools was too cold to swim comfortably in October. Food Breakfast, buffet style/self service with a manned, egg station -  good range of foods available. Evening Menu - we, as a family, ate on one occasion in the main, hotel restaurant. The food was impressive in both quality and quantity and no more expensive than some, far less impressive restaurants in Sorrento itself. Fresh vegetables, so absent from restaurants visited in Sorrento, were much appreciated in the hotel's restaurant. Hotel staff were always welcoming, courteous and attentive. The bar menu was reasonable in range and price. Again no more expensive than eating in Sorrento itself where prices seemed high for the quality of food on offer. Note: Restaurants in Sorrento add a cover charge -  sometimes for nothing in return! Not so the hotel, where the cover charge in the main restaurant included bread, bread sticks and, it would seem, an additional appetiser course alongside food ordered. Many reviews of the hotel suggest booking half board - certainly worth considering... consideration...

An amazing hotel in Sorrento

Excellent stay at this fabulous hotel. The hotel is spotlessly clean and all the staff are excellent, a credit to the hotel. We were half board so enjoyed a lovely breakfast every day and evening meal. The food is exceptional and Mario, Samuelle and the waiting staff do an incredible job in the restaurant. Top marks to the chef/s and kitchen staff who work behind the scenes. The hotel has a rooftop bar with fabulous views across the bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius. It's a short walk into the main square, the train station and ferries so everything is close by. We really enjoyed our trip and will definately be returning in the future.
