The hotel is quite modern and very clean. There are some lovely staff and our cleaner was very helpful. The rooms we had both overlooked the sea and Mount Versuvius which was great. However only 4 coat hangers per room and the plug sockets didn't accept all of our plug converters. The prongs on the plugs had to be thin and even our Italian multi socket that we brought in Rome at Easter didn't fit. There is one 'normal' European plug socket by the door which made charging all the gadgets a little difficult. Fridges in the rooms were very useful and the beds were very comfortable. Balcony's were 15" approx depth so there was no sitting on them to enjoy the sunset with a cold drink. Bigger balcony's are available but you will need to upgrade your room . The bathrooms had baths with showers over them which isn't a problem but the bath sides are very steep . If you can't cock your leg about a metre in height you might struggle. We often caught the taps and to be honest I'm surprised there haven't been accidents getting in and out. Food and drink was very expensive and we paid 27 euros for 2 drinks! Breakfast did not change for the whole 14 days. It consisted of 'holiday' bacon and scrambled eggs plus normal continental breakfast. I'm not sure if this is a normal breakfast menu in Italy, as this is the first time we have stayed in a hotel, but it's not what we would expect a 4* hotel to offer. If you are B&B board basis and want to purchase other meals lunch is approx 10 euros per person (toastie/wrap) and the Al a Carte menu was very seafood orientated and never changed. All these meals were expensive to what you pay in town. There is a burger van on the evening if you walk past the hotel (5 mins) which is very reasonable and does attract a lot of locals and bikers. The pool and the beach are very clean and thick lovely towels are available for free at both. Inflatables are allowed in the pool and there were plenty of beds and umbrellas. However on a weekend there may have been events on or locals may have been allowed to use the facilities. There was definitely a difference in the amount of people at the pool. The beach is made of pebbles and I do not recommend anyone going onto it without shoes or into the sea. Very painful! It seems beaches are not free in Italy and if they are available they are not as well kept. So at the local town Vico Equense 2 beds and a beach brolly are 20 euros and in Sorrento 50 euros plus There is no shop near the hotel but I believe the reception had some basic items to buy. To get around you need to hire a car or be prepared to pay 3 euros per person each way for the shuttle bus to Vico Equense. The bus ran throughout the morning but didn't run in the afternoon until 4pm. Without this bus service we would have been completely isolated as I believe to walk into Castellammare Di Stabia would take 45 minutes along a busy road which had a pavement that you would have to keep crossing the road to follow. The hotel will book taxi's to this town but it would be 20 euros each way. This town is the next station on the train line costing approx 2.40 euros each way per person. The shuttle bus drops you off at the train/bus station and the trains run frequently to Naples and Sorrento. This has stops at Pompeii which was 15 minutes away and costing 2.70 euros per person each way. The same price and distance the opposite way got you to Sorrento. This made travelling to these areas cheap and easy however sometimes the trains were delayed due to some of the track being single line. The last train from Sorrento to Vico was at 10pm but the last bus to the hotel was also at 10pm. Taxi's from Sorrento to the hotel were 100-130 euros each way and taxi's from Vico for the 6 minute ride were 25 euros. My advise would be don't miss the last train and bus. However this does restrict the evening activities you can do in Sorrento and we had to cancel an activity because we wouldn't have got back in time Vico Equense is a small town with a few bars, mainly in the square, and restaurants around the whole town. Al Buco restaurant is very reasonable and offered a wide choice. This was defiantly our favourite restaurant especially as we don't eat seafood. The town also has a good burger place Burger Street 26 and a lovely quiet restaurant on the beach front La Capanna del Marinaio. You can catch the bus down to and back up from the beach as it was at the bottom of a steep hill costing 2 euros per person each way. Conad is a well stocked supermarket for all your 'water' and nibbles. If you want to visit any of the Pompeii sites I would compare the prices at their local tourist office on the way into the town centre 32 Via Roma. We booked Mount Versuvius online and I think it would have been cheaper to book through this company? A lot of the visitors to this hotel seemed to only stay a few days as they use it as a base to explore the area. If you don't want to go out and about, I wouldn't stay here. It is very centralised for the local attractions but without a car you would have to use the shuttle bus and public transport unless you are prepared to pay ridiculous prices for taxis. We did enjoy our stay but it is remote and this will cost you in lots of ways!

Months before my arrival, I emailed the hotel to inquire about their "Endless Love" package, hoping to surprise my girlfriend. The package was advertised as an "unforgettable surprise: room set up with red petals and balloons, flowers, chocolates and sparkling wine to toast eternal love." However, when we got to the room, the red petals were artificial, and the sparkling wine was nowhere to be found. I had to call reception to request the champagne, and it took about 20 minutes for it to be delivered because the restaurant was already closed. On our second night, around 1 AM, an emergency light suddenly turned on, lighting up the entire room. When we called reception to ask what was happening, their only response was that "sometimes it happens." The light eventually turned off after about an hour. Aside from these incidents, our stay was otherwise pleasant.
