The historic heart of Sorrento

  1. A historic hotel in the heart of Sorrento right above the sea
  2. Three restaurants featuring the finest Neapolitan cuisine
  3. A spectacular sailboat with which to explore the Bay of Naples

The Grand Hotel Cocumella is considered one of the most prestigious hotels in Sorrento, Italy. Its long and illustrious history began in 1822, when the former Jesuit residence dating from the 16th century was transformed into a luxury hotel, which has only expanded and improved over the past two centuries. Famous guests including the Duke of Wellington, Goethe, Murat, and Hans Christian Andersen have stayed here over the years, and international artists and celebrities still continue to choose the Cocumella for their stay on Italy's Coast.

A Garden Overlooking the Bay of Naples

The garden at the Cocumella is the jewel in the hotel's crown, with its Mediterranean flora, citrus orchard, lush flowering plants, bright colors, and tropical scents. It is here where guests love to wander and relax in the soothing quiet until reaching the sweeping terrace over the sea, where they are treated to an unforgettable view of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.

Relaxation Any Way You Like

Pool, sundeck, wellness, tennis, and a magnificent historic garden: at the Cocumella you can relax in any style you prefer. Take some time for sports, treat yourself to a beauty treatment or massage, or simply meander through the garden with its view over the Bay of Naples from the hotel terraces.

Hop on the historic sailboat from 1880 to explore the islands in the Bay of Naples and the Amalfi Coast! Grand Hotel Cocumella offers this unique and unforgettable experience to hotel guests.

Luxury Rooms

Guest rooms at the Grand Hotel Cocumella are perfect jewels, each unique and luxurious. The 60 rooms are carefully decorated and furnished with period pieces and, in some, marble fireplace. Suites include a living area and jetted tub in the bathroom.

Sorrento's Cuisine Served in Three Spots

Scintilla: the garden of Mediterranean flavors. L'agrumeto: from pizza to a light lunch served poolside. Coku: gourmet specialties by Robata with a view. Three unique restaurants with three different styles but a single level of excellence. Whichever you choose, the menu has been crafted to provide guests with the opportunity to sample authentic Italian cuisine.

The Grand Hotel Cocumella in Sorrento is also the perfect venue for weddings, receptions, banquets, and elegant events.

We came to GHC after ten days in Anacapri and Amalfi where we stayed in five star resorts that I thought could not be beat. I was expecting GHC to be my least favorite stop given I knew it was old. Well, this spot really was a delight. Our suite was large and had a two story outdoor area overlooking the resort and water beyond. The staff was top five I’ve ever experienced- they were so so responsive and endearing. The food was all made from the giant garden in the center of the resort which is stunning to walk through en route to the pool and beach. Every corner of the hotel has a surprise and delight. We took the sailboat for a sunset cruise and that was magic, definitely don’t miss that. Every meal was a ten. And it is a small resort, but still big enough that it feels comfortable and quiet. The bar overlooking the water is also amazing. Definitely go and embrace the old world charm. This hotel is right up there with the majors down the coast!

The hotel cocumella was easily one of the best travel experiences we have had as a family. From the moment we walked in the door we were welcomed with open arms and friendly service. By the time we left we were hugging the staff good bye. The food was excellent, the rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the temperature was cool, the view (and the entire property) was unbeatable. It is absolutely on the older side of hotels I’m sure, but the things that mattered didn’t feel old. The concierge was incredibly helpful and kind. There was a huge wedding at the hotel when we were there and we could have easily felt pushed aside to serve those guest but instead we still felt like their most important guests. That is pretty special.

Five star hotel with six star service experience

This property more than earns its five start designation. The building and grounds are beautiful. The breakfast is generous and excellent. The three restaurants are all very tasty and well-executed. We stayed in what I think its their basic room and it was roomy and comfortable for a couple. The pool and beach club are super nice. We drove and the included parking is so awesome to have. But what really set this hotel apart of us in our three night stay was the warmth, kindness, attention to detail, and proactivity of the service, which was consistent across every single person we interacted with. I think this may have been the best-feeling service I've ever received in any hospitality setting. We've been to very nice five star establishments before, and the joyful service we received in this instance was simply outstanding.

Dreaming of Cocumella

My family of 9 stayed at the Grand Cocumella a year ago and we all wish we were going back this year! It's a magical place, from the kind and helpful staff, the beautiful gardens that led to spectacular sea views, the large, wonderful pool surrounded by the gardens, and the amazing breakfast room with treats galore! And we loved the tiny beach and jetty below with lounge chairs and colorful umbrellas, with steps into the delightful warm waters. It was a little piece of paradise, so relaxing after our busy day trips into Sorrento, Capri, Positano, and Ravello. We'll always remember our time there, our favorite stay in Italy!
