The historic heart of Sorrento

  1. A historic hotel in the heart of Sorrento right above the sea
  2. Three restaurants featuring the finest Neapolitan cuisine
  3. A spectacular sailboat with which to explore the Bay of Naples

The Grand Hotel Cocumella is considered one of the most prestigious hotels in Sorrento, Italy. Its long and illustrious history began in 1822, when the former Jesuit residence dating from the 16th century was transformed into a luxury hotel, which has only expanded and improved over the past two centuries. Famous guests including the Duke of Wellington, Goethe, Murat, and Hans Christian Andersen have stayed here over the years, and international artists and celebrities still continue to choose the Cocumella for their stay on Italy's Coast.

A Garden Overlooking the Bay of Naples

The garden at the Cocumella is the jewel in the hotel's crown, with its Mediterranean flora, citrus orchard, lush flowering plants, bright colors, and tropical scents. It is here where guests love to wander and relax in the soothing quiet until reaching the sweeping terrace over the sea, where they are treated to an unforgettable view of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.

Relaxation Any Way You Like

Pool, sundeck, wellness, tennis, and a magnificent historic garden: at the Cocumella you can relax in any style you prefer. Take some time for sports, treat yourself to a beauty treatment or massage, or simply meander through the garden with its view over the Bay of Naples from the hotel terraces.

Hop on the historic sailboat from 1880 to explore the islands in the Bay of Naples and the Amalfi Coast! Grand Hotel Cocumella offers this unique and unforgettable experience to hotel guests.

Luxury Rooms

Guest rooms at the Grand Hotel Cocumella are perfect jewels, each unique and luxurious. The 60 rooms are carefully decorated and furnished with period pieces and, in some, marble fireplace. Suites include a living area and jetted tub in the bathroom.

Sorrento's Cuisine Served in Three Spots

Scintilla: the garden of Mediterranean flavors. L'agrumeto: from pizza to a light lunch served poolside. Coku: gourmet specialties by Robata with a view. Three unique restaurants with three different styles but a single level of excellence. Whichever you choose, the menu has been crafted to provide guests with the opportunity to sample authentic Italian cuisine.

The Grand Hotel Cocumella in Sorrento is also the perfect venue for weddings, receptions, banquets, and elegant events.

Wow some shortcomings but an amazing stay!

Wow what a place. Staff was amazing all around and couldn’t have asked for a better experience with the staff. Giuseppe the Concierge—I would give 10 stars to if I could!!!’ He was helping us book stuff before we arrived. Enzo the bartender in the main building was also amazing serving up late night drinks and great conversation. The resort had a great proximity to downtown Sorrento— maybe 15 min walk or they have a tuk tuk car they will drive you in almost to downtown then a 2 min walk. Ocean seas was great with the elevator down from the cliffs and bar service out there. Great views all around and prices were what you would expect for this type of place The only downside was it seems like a wedding venue almost every day and they limit your access certain areas of the waterview property which was aggravating at times given we were paying guests as well. Rooms are average with no real views to speak of. Pool area was nice as well With a nice restaurant there as well. Coku was described as a nice romantic dinner option—- it wasn’t —- loud club like music and given its Open to the public at sunset it’s filled with instagrammers all trying to take sunset selfies— many in beachwear and being loud and obnoxious. Regardless of these negatives Giuseppe really is the main character here and he’s a great resource and makes your stay amazing and delivers to you whatever you may need! We would stay here again.

Care for you like family!

The hotel was 5 star in every aspect. The gardens were a unique adventure each day we discovered something new. The key aspect here to be applauded is the exemplary service. Giuseppe took special care of us. My sister in law was ill ( prior week in Tuscany) and he coordinated a local physician to come to the room and see her, prescribe medication and sent his representative to the pharmacy to get the needed items. He then had them delivered to the room for administration within an hour. This would never happen in the USA. She then was able to enjoy the second week. Giuseppe is a special person and we will never forget all the daily coordination of restaurant reservations and general checking in on the 3 of us ladies. We have his contact information and will certainly stay here on our next visit to the area. Sorrento is magical and the location of the hotel is central to everything you need to see and do in the area. Very private!

We loved this hotel! Incredibly beautiful and the service was impeccable. The concierge, Giuseppe, was very helpful both before the trip and during! The restaurant at the hotel, Coku Robata Grill, was gorgeous. The food was incredible - the stuffed zucchini pasta and the tomahawk were both so good would highly recommend. Massimo was our server and sommelier - might be the best service I’ve ever had at a restaurant! So knowledgeable about the wines. Thank you for an amazing stay!

You won’t be disappointed; it’s a gorgeous former Jesuit monastery
