Postcard-perfect memories from Sorrento

  1. From the rooms to the private beach by elevator
  2. Dinner with a view of Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples
  3. A historic hotel in the heart of Sorrento
Address
Via Califano, 22 - Sorrento

Built on the cliffs directly above the sea, this historic hotel was the first in Italy's resort town of Sorrento to boast stunning views over the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The luxury Grand Hotel Riviera continues to pamper guests today with its lovely private beach, pool, Mediterranean cuisine, and elegant rooms...all the elements selective travellers need for an unforgettable stay.

Charm from Yesteryear

During its more than 50 years of history, the Grand Hotel Riviera hosted a number of illustrious guests and celebrities at the end of the 1900's, when it was the only hotel in Sorrento overlooking the Bay of Naples and offering direct access to a private beach.
The guest rooms are small jewels, bright and decorated in a welcoming Mediterranean style. Guest can choose from a variety of room types, from economy to standard with a view of the garden, or rooms with a sea view, including the Junior Suite and the luxurious Suite Vesuvio.

Delicious Meals with Stunning Views

The terraces overlooking the sea are the perfect spot for breathtaking views. Here guests enjoy breakfast against the backdrop of Mount Vesuvius, lunch facing the sea, or romantic dinners with the twinkling lights of the coast in the distance.
The flavors of the Mediterranean dominate all the dishes, from the buffet breakfast featuring local sweets, to the restaurant menu, which includes some of the best traditional recipes and Mediterranean favorites.

Don't miss the chance to sip a sunset cocktail on the terrace of the American Bar, with the spectacular Mediterranean Sea stretched out before you!

A Direct Trip Down to the Beach

One of the most luxurious touches of this historic hotel is its private beach in Sorrento. No need to walk...just take the elevator directly down to the water's edge!
If you want to relax on the beach during your vacation in Sorrento, there is nothing better than the private beach at Grand Hotel Riviera, which provides guests with loungers, umbrellas, beach towels, and snorkling equipment...guests can also rent a boat for a trip along the Sorrentine coast.
Guests can also opt for a relaxing afternoon on the large terrace with its panoramic pool, featuring a hot tub and small children's pool.

Misleading, overpriced, and unprofessional experience.

I booked the “Premium Room with Sea View Terrace” at the Grand Hotel Riviera based on the website photos and description, expecting a spacious room with a private terrace and stunning sea view. What I received — Room 203 — was smaller, lacked the furniture shown online, and had a terrace exposed to neighboring rooms. The viewpoint promised in the photos did not match reality. The website does not provide square metre sizes, allowing the hotel to assign guests wherever they like without transparency. At the time, the room was charged at an obscene rate, and it’s now advertised at roughly half the price, showing how inflated the original charge was. I raised the issue with Mr. Sanseverino, who responded in a condescending, dismissive, and rude manner. He refused a fair refund for the difference in room category and offered only a voucher, ignoring the clear discrepancy between what was advertised and what was delivered. For a hotel with a long-standing reputation, this behavior is unacceptable. Guests should be aware that the room you book online may be very different from the room you receive, and questioning it may lead to arrogant and unprofessional treatment. Avoid unless you are prepared for misleading marketing, inflated pricing, and terrible customer service. For a hotel trading on its “historic reputation,” the Riviera operates with outdated standards, misleading advertising, and poor customer relations. Be warned: the room you book online is very likely not the room you’ll get — and you’ll be treated with arrogance if you dare to question it.

Amazing views, warm staff

This hotel was just beautiful. The views from our suite and the breakfast room were just breathtaking. The staff was always smiling, breakfast was high quality, and the private beach was just amazing. The pool was very nice as well but it was hard to beat the beach! It is a short walk into town which is fine since town was too crowded anyway! We walked to a supermarket and laundry mat when needed (I have 3 kids who need to be fed and whose clothes need to be cleaned). It was very hard to come back to New Jersey.

We spent 5 nights at this beautiful hotel in Sorrento. The staff couldn't be more accommodating. Front desk/Concierge gave us wonderful recommendations and always assisted in any bookings we needed. The restaurant and bar staff made us feel welcome and provided 5 star service. Rooms and all public areas were bright and clean. The views from the hotel were amazing - especially sunsets. We will return again!

It would be hard to find a better location than that of Grand Hotel Riviera, right above the sea but practically in the center of Sorrento. The charming lanes of the historic center and the port with ferries for day trips to the islands in the Bay of Naples are just steps away. Sorrento is the ideal base for visiting the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii.
