Address
Via Califano, 22 - Sorrento

Built on the cliffs directly above the sea, this historic hotel was the first in Italy's resort town of Sorrento to boast stunning views over the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The luxury Grand Hotel Riviera continues to pamper guests today with its lovely private beach, pool, Mediterranean cuisine, and elegant rooms...all the elements selective travellers need for an unforgettable stay.

Charm from Yesteryear

During its more than 50 years of history, the Grand Hotel Riviera hosted a number of illustrious guests and celebrities at the end of the 1900's, when it was the only hotel in Sorrento overlooking the Bay of Naples and offering direct access to a private beach.
The guest rooms are small jewels, bright and decorated in a welcoming Mediterranean style. Guest can choose from a variety of room types, from economy to standard with a view of the garden, or rooms with a sea view, including the Junior Suite and the luxurious Suite Vesuvio.

Delicious Meals with Stunning Views

The terraces overlooking the sea are the perfect spot for breathtaking views. Here guests enjoy breakfast against the backdrop of Mount Vesuvius, lunch facing the sea, or romantic dinners with the twinkling lights of the coast in the distance.
The flavors of the Mediterranean dominate all the dishes, from the buffet breakfast featuring local sweets, to the restaurant menu, which includes some of the best traditional recipes and Mediterranean favorites.

Don't miss the chance to sip a sunset cocktail on the terrace of the American Bar, with the spectacular Mediterranean Sea stretched out before you!

A Direct Trip Down to the Beach

One of the most luxurious touches of this historic hotel is its private beach in Sorrento. No need to walk...just take the elevator directly down to the water's edge!
If you want to relax on the beach during your vacation in Sorrento, there is nothing better than the private beach at Grand Hotel Riviera, which provides guests with loungers, umbrellas, beach towels, and snorkling equipment...guests can also rent a boat for a trip along the Sorrentine coast.
Guests can also opt for a relaxing afternoon on the large terrace with its panoramic pool, featuring a hot tub and small children's pool.

Stunning hotel and great location, we have just come to the end of our 12 day stay and it has been wonderful. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the rooms are a decent size. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. The beach club is lovely and a great place to relax the day away whilst watching the sea and beautiful yachts sail in and out. Be prepared for the drinks and food to be slightly more expensive than in the centre. The breakfast is adequate and there's a decent choice with something for all tastes. The lunches are excellent in the Blue Lounge, an average main course for lunch is around €20 -25 so for 2 with soft drinks around €60. Or you can get a sandwich on the jetty of the beach club for around €12. The location is perfect, it's around a 15 minute walk to the centre which is perfect for walking the pasta off! Mid way there is a stunning panoramic view across the bay. It feels very safe to walk and there are always lots of people around too. One negative point: we were really disappointed to find that there are no facilities provided for when you have checked out at 11am. This is a problem if you have a later flight, we had to wash and change in the public facilities at the pool side. We were also informed that we couldn't access the beach club after our 11am room check out and could only use the pool area if it wasn't busy. I would have expected in a hotel of this quality there would be a room/ space available for changing if you are catching a later flight. We would have been prepared to pay a small fee, however this wasn't an option. Overall, it was a wonderful holiday and we would 100% recommend and return.

Gorgeous Riviera

I did hours upon hours of research on hotels in Sorrento and decided on the Riviera. The hotel is immaculate, the pool clean and the beach club area clean. Swimming in the sea is a must! The breakfast is amazing and the views........ The only cons I have about this hotel is the location. Yes, we wanted to be away from the main part of town but when we wanted to go into town or to the ferry or lower town area, you have to taxi. The taxi's are expensive and we found that the rates fluctuate by driver. A 5 minute taxi to town will cost you minimum $20 euro and most drivers won't use the meter. The cost to the ferry is minimum $30 euro. We walked into town (15 minutes) and to the ferry once (25 minutes). Had we known the taxi's were going to be so expensive for a 1km ride then we would've stayed closer to town. The property is beautiful, the staff amazing and the food excellent.

We've just returned from a week's stay at the Grand Hotel Riviera which we all thoroughly enjoyed! What stood out for us was the friendliness of all the staff from the General Manager who was often around the hotel, to the conceirge especially Francesco and Gianni who helped us book taxi's, restaurants and trips during our stay - all of which worked well. We always received pleasant and efficient service at the bar and in the restaurant. Our room was very spacious and clean with a spectacular view of the Bay of Naples. Thank you so much for such an enjoyable time! We hope to return! Janet, Stuart and Charles

This is our second stay here and can’t wait to come back . The best things about this lovely hotel are the staff . Very friendly helpful and professional. They have made us feel special and relaxed - thank you ! A nice surprise also in our room for my wife’s birthday ! The best location and great private beach - staff on the beach brilliant too . The breakfast fantastic . Restaurant in the evening was lovely although the food was a bit too posh for us ! We prefer pizza and spaghetti etc . But lots of great places near by . Highly recommend this hotel !! Many thanks to all the staff 😀🥂

It would be hard to find a better location than that of Grand Hotel Riviera, right above the sea but practically in the center of Sorrento. The charming lanes of the historic center and the port with ferries for day trips to the islands in the Bay of Naples are just steps away. Sorrento is the ideal base for visiting the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii.
