With its flawless position on a clifftop overlooking the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius right in the heart of postcard-perfect Sorrento, Grand Hotel Royal is one of this resort town's most prestigious addresses. Each of the bright, airy rooms and suites has a private balcony with exclusive views of the Mediterranean or the hotel's beautiful private gardens, and the recently restored interiors offer the most up-to-date luxury and comfort while retaining their classic historic elegance: sweeping marble staircases and crystal chandeliers, sumptuous sofas and carved wooden furnishings, and precious antiques grace the hotel's public halls and lounges.

The hotel's fine dining restaurant, "Le Relais", features both local Mediterranean cuisine and international dishes on its gourmet menu, paired with an extensive wine list including the best local and international labels. To celebrate special occasions or events, the "Glicini" Room off the main dining room offers breathtaking views of the lush gardens and sparkling Mediterranean...the perfectly unforgettable venue for your wedding reception or gala dinners in Italy.

For a lighter repast, the "Caprice" Lounge Bar serves afternoon tea and evening cocktails, and the poolside Restaurant & Snack Bar "La Terrasse" serves traditional Neapolitan pizza, fish dishes, grilled meat, and light salads at informal tables overlooking the sea.

Below the hotel at the water's edge, theSnack-Bar "La Marine" on Grand Hotel Royal's private jetty, offers drinks and simple appetizers with a view of the water, and the nearby private beach is the perfect spot for sunbathing, a leisurely swim, or for setting off on a sail along the Amalfi Coast or across the gulf to Italy's Island of Capri.

Classic and timeless!

I’ve traveled to over 30 countries and stayed at some of the finest hotels in the world, and I can confidently say that The Grand Hotel Royal is among the very best. The hotel and its grounds are stunning—elegant, timeless, and immaculately maintained. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the staff. They are warm, welcoming, and exceptionally professional, making the entire experience unforgettable. I highly recommend this hotel—you will not be disappointed!

Help from reception staff

We didn’t stay at the hotel but wanted to extend our thanks to the staff. My elderly father took a fall outside the hotel and the reception staff were incredibly helpful in bringing him in to sit down, provide some water and call an ambulance. Thank you for your kindness and assistance. After a trip to the hospital and some stitches he is recovering well.

Amazing View, Great Location

Beautiful view of the (active) sea port and is at the edge of town, 3min walk to Piazza Tasso (main square). Away from bustle of downtown, but on a busy road, I’m happy we were on the sea side (5th floor Prestige room). Enjoyed our morning coffee, and evening wine with an amazing view of sea and Mt Vesuvius in background. Grounds were beautiful. There is an elevator (lift) that takes you to the beach and their private dock/lounge area. You have to walk through a tunnel. Pool is not heated, so no one was using it. Cocktails on the patio overlooking the sea were amazing. American breakfast buffet with made to order egg station included. Room was bright and spacious. Beautiful tile floor (however, this also causes a lot of hallway noise). There is also a metal roller blind, which we lowered every night (needed for darkness & road noise). High quality robes and towels, with evening turndown service to replace towels. Included slippers. King bee was comfortable. Older style USB plugs on either side of bed. We were here for 5 nights. Location was excellent, you are just on the edge of the hustle of the main town area (3min walk to main square, which is at the edge of the Old Town area). You felt relaxed when you returned yo hotel after a busy day exploring. Sorrento Train & Bus Station was a 3 minute walk. We easily took the city train to Pompeii. Negatives: - When you come in, you see 5-Star hotel sign, it’s definitely NOT, this is the hotel’s own designation. - Nescafé instant coffee packet! For this room category & cost, I’d expect Nespresso or something similar. We had a Nespresso machine in our Rome hotel, which was half the price! Plus, no 5-star hotel has instant coffee packets in the room. - Shampoo/Conditioner smelled like frankincense, totally nasty (you’re in Sorrento, have a lemon or floral aroma!). - Road noise when patio door & steel shutters open. It’s on a busy road, but sea view side is very quiet, but you will hear some traffic noise, since part of the road is visible from this side. - Service was just good, not amazing. - Price, but after comparing other hotels that are on cliff with amazing views, quick walk to main square, I couldn’t find anything better. Fact is Italy is getting more and more expensive, I found all food & drink options in all of Italy very pricey. Overall, it was a great experience, if I was to stay in Sorrento I would stay here (maybe

this was a really nice hotel.. the views were great.. the terrace is really comfortable. the rooms were well appointed.. the location is very centrally located.. the staff was quite nice and helpful.. one negative.. there was no access to the beach and i wanted to see it.. it was early in the season and not such a big deal.. they recommended a restaurant which was close and ok but i thought there must have been better choice

Grand Hotel Royal is located in Sorrento, perched directly above the sea on a rocky promontory from where sweeping views of the entire Gulf of Naples and the majestic form of Mount Vesuvius can be admired. Those travelling by air will want to take flights landing at Naples' Capodichino Airport. Guests choosing to journey by train should descend at Naples Central Station from where to board a Sorrento-bound train on the Circumvesuviana line. By car, the hotel is easily reached via the A3 Napoli-Salerno motorway, exiting at Castellammare di Stabia from where to follow indications to Sorrento. Sea connections link Sorrento to Naples, Capri, and Castellammare all year round. Whilst holidaying in Sorrento, visitors should not fail to take a trip along the nearby Amalfi Coast, to the islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida, and to the fascinating archaeological site of Pompei.
