I would rate this hotel a solid 4.5. The rooms are renovated, but the layout is still old school, with a lot of empty space wasted. The tub/shower is an odd shape and would be somewhat small for a larger person. We stayed in a suite, so I cannot comment on the non-suite rooms. Overall, a great stay and perfect centralized location.

Best Rooftop Bar in Sorrento!!

This review is for the rooftop bar at Hotel Continental—and for the amazing Giovanni and his wonderful staff. We weren’t able to stay at the hotel itself since it was already sold out by the time I booked, but I knew I had to at least visit the beautiful rooftop bar. On our last night in Sorrento, we finally made it there for sunset drinks, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our entire trip! Giovanni was the most welcoming host we encountered during our two weeks in Europe. He shared stories about growing up in Sorrento, gave us fantastic tips for when we return (and we will return!), and truly made our last evening unforgettable. To top it all off, he even had a jar of his homemade sauce delivered to our hotel before we left—such a thoughtful gesture. Please, please, if you want a fantastic cocktail in a stunning setting, with a host who makes you feel like family, don’t miss this rooftop bar!

Traditional hotel in excellent location

This hotel has a great location close to the centre of Sorrento and right next to a popular viewing area where you can see across the bay to Vesuvius. Like many Italian hotels it’s quite old fashioned - in terms of furnishings and service. The staff very welcoming and friendly, particularly Antonio. Our room was traditionally furnished but very clean and comfortable with a super king bed and great air con (much needed in August). The pool area is nice with plenty of sunbeds. However we discovered that it attracts large families with lots of kids so it was often noisy and not very relaxing. One Italian family commanded all four of the day beds during our stay - reserving them all day every day - playing music, smoking, bringing in their own food etc. The poolside cafe is expensive and formal (8 € for a soft drink) so we went out for lunch each day. There’s plenty of choice at breakfast. The rooftop bar is well worth a visit, especially at sunset - the views are incredible. There are numerous good affordable restaurants and gift shops within 5 minutes walk. Raki ice cream is well worth queuing for. I would recommend a walk down to Piccolo Grande (10 mins from the hotel) which resembles a fishing village. There’s a small beach here but we found it too crowded. There are beaches at Marina Piccolo too (get the lift down) but again these are very crowded in August. Positano is worth a visit. We took a boat there from Marina Piccolo. Again it’s very crowded but we found a nice beachfront cafe where we sat for 2+ hours and people watched. Would recommend visiting outside August to avoid the crowds and heat.

Absolutely fantastic hotel! Staff are so friendly and helpful. Beautiful room with sea view. Breakfast is amazing. Restaurant food is Five Star. Roof top bar is also a a great place to enjoy s cocktail.
