A stay we would remember - for all the wrong reasons

I stayed at Johanna Park Hotel in Sorrento and, unfortunately, the experience didn’t match its self-proclaimed 4-star rating. I would place it closer to 4 out of 20. The property is in dire need of refurbishment. Much of the décor looks frozen in the 1950s, and not in a charming, vintage way. Several pieces of furniture were worn, unstable, or falling apart, which made the room feel tired and poorly maintained. The biggest disappointment was the pool, which had clearly not been properly cared for. The water was green with visible algae, making it unusable and giving a very poor first impression of upkeep and hygiene. The staff were polite, but overall the facilities and condition of the hotel fell far below what you would expect from a 4-star property, especially in a destination like Sorrento. Location-wise, it wasn’t ideal either. The hotel sits far enough from town that getting anywhere required relying on a personal shuttle service run by hotel staff. While they tried to be helpful, it made simple outings inconvenient and limited flexibility compared to staying closer to Sorrento’s centre. A refresh, proper maintenance, and some modernisation would go a long way — but as it stands, I can’t recommend it.

2 star experience. Needs investment.

It's very dated. 1980s I guess it's not been updated since built. Should be 3 star. Shuttle bus service is a joke. Don't rely on it , 8 seater only and always late. 30 mins. Lots of frustration from all stood waiting for it repeatedly. Don't plan excursions around it. €40-50 taxi to or from town, station area. It's a long walk from town up very steep narrow and slippery when wet roads. In first floor rooms you will be woken by noise from the kitchen ,dining room set up at 6am and bar in the evening. Tatty old towels, dusty and threadbare blanket. Shower dirty outside, needs renovation and poor water flow, heat. No air con/ heating working. The cleaners do thier best, always fresh bed, cleaned inside shower etc. Most staff are very helpful. Mostly for coach tours. Not a 4 star hotel experience. Could be lovely. Views , pool. etc..But needs to be brought up to modern standards, manager needs to sort out shuttle bus. If offered it needs to be reliable.

Nightmare in Sorrento

Less than a star I can't put, but it was a nightmare stay. The sad room, furnished very "poor old style". I had requested a DUS and they gave me a room with two beds (patience). The sadness of seeing the curtains dirty and torn had never happened to me. I went to work with colleagues and even their rooms were with tattered curtains or bathroom mats that I would not even put in the doghouse. The bathroom with ruined mirror and shower glass even the ruined one. N9n we talk about the smell of unbearable bleach in the room, great clean but with good detergents, it looked like a hospital room. We are talking about a 4-star hotel. The breakfast was also thrilling, the cakes were inedible, the bread was not fresh, it was hard to swallow. When it was time to pay and have the invoice, in a 4 star hotel at the reception they do it immediately, they told us that they were not licensed and had to wait for the manager. We received an unreasonable invoice by email. Someone of the staff very nice and helpful, but mostly all improvised.
