Wonderful!

This was our second visit to this marvellous hotel, (our first visit was unfortunately cut short last year due to a medical emergency), so we decided to return this year. My husband and I agreed it was the best holiday we have had for many years. The staff are absolutely marvellous, so kind, friendly, and attentive. We chose a sea view room overlooking the Bay of Naples, and whilst it was lovely, we spent so much time on the roof terrace drinking in the view, it would not have mattered if our room did not have a sea view. The rooms are possibly the cleanest we have found anywhere. The floors are spotless. Breakfast was plentiful. We did not eat dinner in the restaurant so cannot comment on this, but the bar food is very good. The hotel is in a great place to explore Sorrento, only a few minutes walk to the centre, and very close to the train station and the port. We cannot wait to return to this hotel and spend more time on the roof terrace sipping cocktails!

Far from Luxury

Hotel was not up to what we expected especially for the price. Hotel seems to be lacking in many areas for what they are calling Luxury. Fake/instant coffee in rooms- in Italy. What? A/C does not work well. We needed 2 rooms for our family of 4 which ran us over $6000 total for 4 nights. Room 1 was meant for kids. Peeling paint, broken toilet, down the hall instead of using the hotel "wing" option. Clearly a dysfunctional room which is why they even stated at checkin that it was for the kids. Room 2, mini bar missing items (water). Champagne glass in the room was used/dirty. Amenities opened/used including a toothbrush and vanity kit (cotton swabs) very gross. Front desk staff are not welcoming. Concierge was not available. Food/wait staff are generally great. Salvatore in particular was great and friendly. Food quality is excellent. Luxury hotel should be a bit more connected. Wifi seems fine, but no streaming options on television in room. Apartment building next door is unsightly and seen from balcony. View from the rooftop is beautiful. Lobby is nice looking with marble floors. Common area furniture is dirty and stained. Beds are comfortable. Located in a relatively quiet area. Good food. Not too crowded. Most of the staff speaks other languages which is a helpful plus.

Great hotel where you really feel at home, and all the staff are very friendly. The location is excellent from this hotel, it is quiet and the large swimming pool, which is surrounded by beautiful trees, is great, as well as the small swimming pool that offers a fantastic view of the surroundings and has a nice bar to unwind in the evening. The food is fantastic, especially the pasta, which is truly excellent. I would choose this hotel again immediately.

We have returned from a week stay at this hotel. Here is my honest opinion Pros.. *Immaculately Clean and daily housekeeping in the room *Staff friendly and helpful *Both pools and gardens are well kept *5 min walk to the centre of Sorrento *Views are amazing Cons... *Bathroom could do with an upgrade, only a shower curtain so after every shower we had to mop up the water. *Occasionally the electrics would go off in the room. *Breakfast was ok. I was expecting better given other reviews. You won't go hungry but it wasn't anything special and after 6 days is repetitive as no variety. The takeaway breakfast on our last morning was disappointing considering the price of the stay. *Music at the rooftop pool was the same every day and on some days really loud so you couldn't read. Overall it's a great hotel and I would recommend to anyone but there is room for improvement.

Map

Grand Hotel De La Ville enjoys a central location in the old seaside town of Sorrento, just a few steps away from the historic center and all of the town's major tourist attractions, such as the Cloisters of San Francesco, the Cathedral of San Filippo and San Giacomo, the Sedile Dominova and the Basilica of Sant'Antonino.
Sorrento is less than an hour's drive away from the city of Naples, Mount Vesuvius and the archeological sites of Pompei and Herculaneum, and within easy reach of all the towns on the nearby Amalfi Coast.
From the port of Sorrento, the island of Capri is just a 20 minute hydrofoil journey away.
