From Positano you can reach Sorrento by ferry or hydrofoil, with the most frequent crossings during high season from April to October. It’s a short crossing and offers spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast.

Positano - Sorrento ferry schedules

The ferry companies that operate on the Positano - Sorrento route offer frequent daily trips in high season and less frequent in low season.

  • High season (April-October): Frequent crossings from early morning until afternoon.

  • Low season (November-March): Limited crossings, which are subject to cancellation in the event of bad weather or rough seas.

The crossing takes about 40 minutes on average, with the first departure around 9 am and the last around 6:30 pm.

  • Passenger ferry: Slightly slower, but with outdoor seating

Departure and arrival points

  • Positano: Departure from Spiaggia Grande pier.

  • Sorrento: Arrival at Marina Piccola. You can easily reach the center by bus or elevator.

The Port of Positano

Positano doesn’t have an actual port but rather just a dock. Weather conditions can affect the crossings, so we recommend you check the weather and be ready to evaluate alternatives in the event your crossing gets canceled due to rough seas.

The Port of Sorrento: Marina Piccola

The Port of Marina Piccola in Sorrento has ticket offices, snack bars, and direct transport to the city center.

  • On foot: The port is about 10 minutes on foot from the centrally located Piazza Tasso. Going up to the center from the port you have to climb a staircase with about 100 steps.

  • By elevator: The elevator is located behind the beach clubs and goes from the port to Villa Comunale.

  • Bus: Buses with Cooperativa Tasso go from the port to the center, stopping in Piazza Sant’Antonino and at the Circumvesuviana station.

If ferries aren’t available, you can opt for:

  • SITA bus: SITA buses make frequent runs between Positano and Sorrento. The trip takes about 40 minutes. Buses leave from the upper part of Positano (the stops are “Chiesa Nuova” and “La Sponda”).

  • Taxi or private transfer: Taxis and private transfers are more convenient but also more costly than public transport (about 80-100 euros).
